History

John Hoenig built the oval on his farm and opened it in 1940, making it the first asphalt-paved racing oval in the United States. It has used several names, including Thompson International Speedway, before becoming Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in 2013. The Hoenig family still owns it, and a rebuilt 1.7-mile road course opened in 2014 alongside the oval.
