History

Built in 1966 near Samsula as Daytona Raceway, the track opened on dirt but was paved because of dust problems and renamed New Smyrna Speedway in 1968. Owned by the Hart family, it stages a nine-night World Series of Asphalt during Daytona Speedweeks each February. Future Daytona 500 winners such as Geoff Bodine and Ryan Newman raced there early in their careers.
