History

NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. opened the high-banked superspeedway in 1959, moving racing off the old Daytona beach course. It hosts the Daytona 500 and the Rolex 24, one of endurance racing's most prestigious events. Lights were added in 1998, the $400 million 'Daytona Rising' rebuild was finished in 2016, and NASCAR has owned the track directly since absorbing International Speedway Corporation in 2019.
