History
The museum opened in April 1956 with Ray Harroun's 1911 Indy 500-winning car and a few other vehicles. In 1976 it moved into a larger building in the Speedway infield. It closed in November 2023 for a large renovation and reopened in April 2025 with new galleries, and it houses the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
