History
The Angel family opened the Baytown strip in 1988, and it carried the Royal Purple Raceway name for several years before reverting to Houston Raceway Park. It hosted NHRA national events for more than three decades. The owners announced in 2021 that the 500-acre property had been sold, and the final event was the 2022 SpringNationals before the site was converted to logistics use.
