History
Modeled on Indianapolis, the 2.5-mile oval opened in 1970 and ran the California 500 for Indy cars along with NASCAR Cup races and the NHRA World Finals. It also staged a 1971 Formula One exhibition and the California Jam rock festivals. Financial trouble led to its closure at the end of 1980, and the land was cleared for the Ontario Center offices, shops and Toyota Arena.
