History
Roger Penske's company built the two-mile oval on a former steel mill site, and it opened in 1997 as California Speedway before being renamed Auto Club Speedway in 2008. It hosted NASCAR's national series and Indy-car racing, and its infield road course was used by sports cars and motorcycles. After the last NASCAR race in February 2023, most of the land was sold for warehouses, and NASCAR has put its proposed short-track replacement on hold.
