History

The half-mile opened in May 1939 next to the Williams Grove amusement park, prompted by car owner Emmett Shelley. The Hughes family has owned it for more than half a century. Its National Open, first run in 1963, is one of the richest sprint car races on the World of Outlaws calendar, and Ray Tilley's 21 wins in the 1966 season remain a track record.
