History
Skagit Speedway opened on Labor Day 1954, built by a group of fourteen local investors. Its egg-shaped oval is near Alger in northwest Washington. Longtime promoter Jim Raper created the Dirt Cup in 1972 as an event shared with other area tracks, and by 1978 it was held only at Skagit. The Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup now draws sprint car teams from the US, Canada and Australia.
