History
Clif Tufte led the creation of Road America after public-road racing around Elkhart Lake ended, and it opened in September 1955. The layout has changed very little since then, which is rare among American circuits. The 640-acre facility has hosted Can-Am, CART/IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA, and its long straights let cars reach close to 200 mph.
