History

Racing began at the Virginia state fairgrounds site in 1946, and NASCAR's top series first visited in 1953. The track was rebuilt as a 3/4-mile D-shaped oval in 1988 and became famous for Saturday night races. Long known as Richmond International Raceway, it shortened its name to Richmond Raceway in 2018 and is now owned by NASCAR.
