History

Pocono opened in 1969 after years of planning delays, and its distinctive three-turn tri-oval came in 1971. Philadelphia dentist Joseph Mattioli led the track through financial trouble in the 1970s and early 1980s, and a second annual NASCAR date helped turn it around. IndyCar raced there from 2013 to 2019. Infield road course layouts are used for club racing and driving schools.
