History
Publisher Robert E. Petersen and his wife Margie opened the museum in June 1994 in a former department store building on Wilshire Boulevard. A $125 million redesign added its stainless-steel ribbon facade, and the museum reopened in December 2015. Its basement Vault holds many more rare vehicles.
