History
The half-mile dirt oval at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh held auto races from 1928, apart from a pause during World War II. NASCAR's top series visited in 1955, 1969 and 1970. Richard Petty won the Home State 200 there on September 30, 1970, which was the last Grand National dirt race until NASCAR returned to dirt in 2021.
