History

Racing in Cedar Rapids began in 1925 at a dirt track called Frontier Park, which took the Hawkeye Downs name in 1937. A quarter-mile infield oval was added in 1950 and both ovals were paved in 1989. The track hosted IndyCar-style open-wheel races in the late 1980s and 1990s and marked its 100th year in 2025.
