History

Businessman Donald S. Gilmore opened the museum in July 1966 after collecting cars through the early 1960s. It now shows more than 400 vehicles on a 90-acre campus and calls itself the largest auto museum in North America. Highlights include a relocated 1941 diner and a replica 1930s Shell station, and a $3.6 million expansion began in 2026.
