History

Bruton Smith and Curtis Turner built the mile-and-a-half quad-oval, which held its first race in June 1960. It became the flagship of Smith's Speedway Motorsports and is home to the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR's longest race. A road-course 'ROVAL' layout using the infield was added for the fall Cup race in 2018, and the fall race was scheduled back on the oval for 2026.
