History
The mile oval was built in 1906 for horse racing at the old state fairgrounds and hosted car races in 1907, 1912, and from 1946 to 1970. Between 1949 and 1970 it held the Golden State 100, a national championship round that A.J. Foyt won five times. After the fair moved, the old grounds were sold in 1970, and the track's last race day saw three drivers killed.
