History

Atlanta Dragway in Banks County hosted the NHRA Southern Nationals every year from 1981 until its 2021 closure. The land was sold to Terra Commerce, and the landmark timing tower and grandstands were torn down in late 2022, though the strip itself remained. In February 2026 Banks County approved a conditional reopening and the IHRA acquired the property with plans to bring national-event racing back.
