History

Opened in 1968, the wide two-mile D-shaped oval in the Irish Hills is among the fastest tracks in NASCAR. It hosted Indy car racing from its first event through 2007, including CART's Michigan 500 from 1979 to 2001. Roger Penske owned it from 1973 until selling to International Speedway Corporation in 1999, and NASCAR has owned it since 2019.
